SARASOTA, Fla. — Feb. 3, 2025 — Daniel Kuether has officially stepped down as chair of the Sarasota County Democratic Party, effective Jan. 31, 2025, after announcing a planned resignation to pursue graduate studies and out of state work.
Kuether’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements, including modernizing the organization and fostering a strong sense of community both within the party and throughout Sarasota County.
“It has been an honor to serve alongside such dedicated individuals. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together, and I leave with confidence in the party’s continued growth and success,” said Kuether.
The SCDP saw several significant accomplishments during Mr. Kuether’s tenure. Perhaps most importantly, the two candidates the party supported for the Sarasota County School Board won election in 2024, beating back two extremist candidates. The Democratic-supported candidates won their elections not just with Democratic votes but the votes of Republican and No-Party-Affiliated voters as well.
Under Mr. Kuether’s leadership, the party was able to turn out more than 84% of Sarasota County Democrats in the November 2024 elections, which resulted in the party achieving the fourth highest Democratic turnout in Florida. The party worked hand in hand with field organizers and volunteers for the Harris-Walz presidential campaign.
During his chairmanship, Mr. Kuether supported the launching of the Democratic Black Caucus Resource Center in Newtown, encouraged and promoted the participation of young Democrats in the party and greatly expanded the party’s messaging using multiple advanced communication channels.
Following Kuether’s departure, Vice Chair Mary Clupper will serve as acting chair until a special election is held within 45 days of Mr. Kuether’s resignation.
