SARASOTA — The Sarasota County Democratic Party (SCDP) today derided Rep. Greg Steube's (R-FL) absurd and unfounded impeachment charges against President Joe Biden.
"Without the slightest bit of evidence, Greg Steube tries to steal 10 minutes of media attention by filing articles of impeachment against Joe Biden," remarked Sarasota County Democratic Party Chair Daniel Kuether. "All Sarasotans who have been waiting since last November for Steube to help improve their lives will see this cynical bit of gamesmanship for what it is."
Steube, both an election and climate denier, has been chasing wild conspiracy theories instead of working to improve the lives of his Sarasota constituents since he was elected to represent the 17th Congressional District.
"Rep. Stuebe voted against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act but still had the audacity," Kuether noted, "to take credit for Charlotte Harbor, which received a third of its funding from that bill. The Biden legislation has helped thousands of Sarasotans and Floridians to rebuild their lives and communities devastated by Hurricane Ian."
Last December, Steube, himself an Army veteran, cowardly voted against awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to the U.S. Capitol Police, who risked their lives to save his own on Jan. 6, 2021. Steube also voted against the CHIPS and Science Act, the PACT Act to help veterans, and the Inflation Reduction Act, all of which already have and continue to bring much-needed federal dollars to Sarasota County.
"In stark contrast," Kuether added, "President Biden signed into law the most significant amount of progressive legislation since the 1930s – all of it opposed by Greg Steube."
"Instead of wasting the American people's valuable time by filing impeachment charges that will go nowhere, Steube should do something to help our community with urgent affordable housing, home insurance, and hurricane-recovery needs."
