SARASOTA—Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fl) is again focusing on the absurd impeachment of President Biden while offering little tangible assistance to residents and businesses impacted by Hurricane Debby.
In his weekly newsletter to constituents, Steube continued to play to his MAGA base with Biden impeachment chatter while offering nothing discernible for important issues like Hurricane Debby recovery efforts. This is even though GOP House leaders essentially declared the Biden impeachment effort a dead issue this month when no vote was called on the House floor.
Steube simply requested that victims contact his office if they needed assistance, while in the past, he actively voted against disaster relief.
“FEMA is a great resource for folks negatively impacted by storms, but what would be really terrific is if our local leaders in the U.S. Congress could roll up their sleeves and do the work of the people when these storms hit,” said Manny Lopez, Democratic candidate for U.S. House of Representative 17 th District. “It also is time to acknowledge the impact of climate change and begin setting policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
Lopez, who fully supports and endorses the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida, believes climate change is responsible for Florida’s stronger winds, higher storm surges, and record rainfalls, which are becoming more destructive and costly.
Lopez supports public policy and education to reverse climate change and preserve Florida’s natural resources.
While Lopez speaks out regularly about his policies that would protect Florida’s natural environment, Steube’s only recent action on the environment was to introduce legislation to rename 4.3 million square miles of U.S. coastal water for Donald Trump.
“Steube’s action was met with the ridicule and derision it deserved from both political parties,” Lopez noted.
