SARASOTA — Sarasota County Democratic Party (SCDP) Chair Daniel Kuether will continue the call for the resignation of Bridget Ziegler from the Sarasota County School Board at a press conference along with other organizations today:
Serving on the Sarasota County School Board is a privilege and a responsibility. The school board is non-partisan as it serves all our public school children and ensures they receive a quality education. This responsibility is the sole purpose of those elected to the board.
Regrettably, by her own admitted behavior, Bridget Ziegler has become distracted from that purpose. It is not our place to judge her and her husband's personal choices; however, as someone who has routinely attacked the LGBTQ+ population and added actual harm to vulnerable students in our schools, the amount of hypocrisy in this situation is astonishing. In the interests of the children she was elected to serve, her resignation is imperative.
Our children require the full attention of all members of the school board. Bridget Ziegler has now become the focus of attention when that focus should belong to the children of Sarasota County. Her continued participation on the school board means that our schools will be collateral damage from a scandal that has yet to unfold fully.
There are times when self-interest must give way to a higher purpose. This is one of those moments. Bridget Ziegler must act responsibly and resign her position for the good of the community and the children she was elected to serve.__Please join us and other organizations for a press conference and rally today, Dec. 12th, to demand the resignation of Bridget Ziegler. The press conference will begin at 4:30 PM at the Sarasota County Schools Administration Building at 1980 Landings Blvd. A 6:00 PM meeting of the Sarasota County School Board meeting will immediately follow.
