SARASOTA — Sarasota County Democratic Party (SCDP) Chair Daniel Kuether issued the following statement today on the vote by Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) and his fellow House Republicans to open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
"Once again, like lambs led to slaughter, Steube and his fellow Republicans in the House of Representatives have done the bidding of Donald Trump, their 4x indicted authoritarian leader."
"Without a shred of evidence against President Biden, Steube, and the House GOP passed an unfounded measure at the very time the country concentrates on wars in Ukraine and the Middle East."
"This takes naked partisanship and irresponsibility to new heights, even for “do-nothing” Steube. The Republican-led House has only been able to pass one of the 12 appropriation bills needed to fund the government since January."
“Residents of Sarasota and all the voters in the 17th Congressional District (including Sarasota, Charlotte, and a small part of Lee counties) know that Representative Steube has been nicknamed "do-nothing" due to his voting record. He has voted against all economic legislation that has benefited the district, which amounts to more than $361 million.”
"Steube also voted against awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to the U.S. Capitol Police who risked their lives to save his own; FEMA funding for victims of Hurricanes Ian and Idalia; and is in favor of ending U.S. assistance to Ukraine in its fight for survival and democracy against Russia."
