Alan Sprintz has filed for Sarasota County Hospital Board, At Large, Seat 1 as the third Democrat candidate. He is committed to keeping Sarasota Memorial Hospital a public institution. Sprintz is a retired hospital administrator and businessman from Sarasota.
SARASOTA – The Sarasota County Democratic Party (SCDP) welcomed Alan J. Sprintz as the third Democrat running for the Sarasota County Hospital Board.
Sprintz, a retired hospital administrator and businessman from Sarasota joins Dr. George Davis and John Lutz as Democratic candidates committed to ensuring Sarasota Memorial Hospital remains a public institution dedicated to the best medical care possible and untainted by politics or ideology.
Like Davis, who practiced family medicine in New York State for more than 35 years, and Lutz, who has more than 40 years of hospital, physician practice, health insurance, and consulting experience, Sprintz served in senior administrative positions at Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center, Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, and South Suburban Hospital, all in Illinois, from 1970-1993. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s in hospital administration from George Washington University in Washington.
“I have chosen to become a candidate for the Hospital Board because I saw a challenge to the goal of the community hospital to provide medical care to the community vs. profits for shareholders,” Sprintz said. “I have watched the gutting of hospitals when they are privatized, just ask Senator (Rick) Scott (R-FL) how that works. I read about the challenge to Sarasota Memorial Hospital to deviate from the recognized standards of care to introduce unproven treatments that were not validated by research, and delete proven treatments (such as) vaccines…”
"With the addition of Alan Sprintz to our Competence Team, Sarasota voters now have a clear choice between outstanding medical and hospital professionals and a so-called ‘medical freedom slate’ composed of extremists with no experience in medicine or hospital administration,” said SCDP Chair Daniel Kuether.
One Republican-backed candidate, Mary Flynn O’Neill, is the executive director of the far-right organization founded by her brother, the disgraced-confessed felon-pardoned by Trump retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn. Another, Tanya Parus, is president of the extremist Moms for America local chapter and a vocal critic of the outstanding job Sarasota Memorial Hospital did during the pandemic.
“Sarasota Memorial Hospital has long been recognized as one of the leading medical institutions in Florida,” Kuether added. "Its governing board needs to be made up of responsible people committed to providing patients with sound medical treatment instead of conspiracy theories and quack medicine.”
The Sarasota County Democratic Party (SCDP) is the local committee of the Florida Democratic Party.
