SARASOTA—Dr. Dale P. Anderson, a physician with 25 years of experience in patient care and group practice management, has been nominated by the Sarasota County Democratic Party to fill the recently opened Democratic candidate seat for the Sarasota County Hospital Board race.
Anderson is running for the At-Large, Seat 2 on the board, succeeding candidate John Lutz, who tragically died of leukemia on July 24. He joins Dr. George Davis, Alan J. Sprintz, and Vicki Nighswander on the Democratic ticket. Together, the four candidates offer more than a century of collective experience in medicine, hospital management, and public health. The four are up for election on Nov. 5 against the Republican primary winner and several write-in candidates.
“Like my running mates on the Democratic ticket, I am fully committed to maintaining our great Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a public institution devoted to outstanding medical practice and science and devoid of politics or ideology,” Anderson said.
Anderson earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He practiced internal and emergency medicine with a large multispecialty group in Iowa for fifteen years before earning an MBA at Iowa State University and transitioning to medical group and hospital management.
After serving as CEO of his 180-physician group practice in Iowa, he joined PresbyterianHealthcare Services in Albuquerque, NM, as the Senior Physician Executive for the employed medical practices. He led the growth of the Presbyterian Medical Group from 116 to 455 physicians and was instrumental in developing the hospital patient safety program.
After leading OhioHealth in Columbus, Ohio, in developing a Medical Specialty Foundation, he joined BDC Advisors, a healthcare strategy consulting firm based in Miami. In this role, he worked with large health systems to integrate hospital-physician services and align provider incentives with insurers' safety and quality goals.
He and his wife have been residents of Sarasota for 10 years.
