Congressman Greg Steube has voted against aid to Ukraine. His vote demonstrates a lack of understanding and confirms that Steube is unfit to represent the 17th Congressional District.
Rep. Greg Steube has demonstrated, once again, that he does not understand what even his own leader, Republican House Speak Mike Johnson, does.
Instead of joining the overwhelming majority of his Democratic and even fellow Republican colleagues in voting for critical aid to Ukraine, Steube again voted no on Saturday.
It appears to be beyond Steube’s comprehension that aid to Ukraine as it fights for its life against unprovoked and brutal Russian aggression is in our own national security interests. Providing the valiant Ukrainians with the aid they need to stop the aggressor means American boys and gals will not have to fight another war in Europe, as they did twice in the last century.
I would remind the congressman that the United States has led the international coalition supporting the brave Ukrainians in their fight against the gravest act of aggression in Europe since the end of World War II. You either stand with the Ukrainians, Congressman Steube, or you stand with Vladimir Putin.
Regrettably, Steube’s vote against Ukraine is just another demonstration of his complete and utter disregard for the voters of the 17th Congressional District, which encompasses Sarasota, Charlotte and a northern slice of Lee counties and includes one of the largest Ukrainian-American communities in the United States.
Steube’s voting record on this and other issues is abysmal. He is an election denier, a climate denier, a stooge of the gun industry, against women’s reproductive freedom and to date has voted against all the following:
- Awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to members of the U.S. Capitol Police who risked their lives to save his on Jan. 6, 2021
- Every piece of economic legislation, popularly known as Bidenomics, most of it passed with bipartisan support. That legislation has brought $361.5 million in federal investment and thousands of new jobs to the district.
- Emergency FEMA funding for hurricane victims.
On the rare occasions when he does vote yes, it’s for nonsensical things like the impeachments of President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and making daylight savings time permanent.
Voters in the 17th Congressional District will have the opportunity to show Greg Steube what they think of his abysmal record in the Nov. 5 general election. They have no further to look beyond his own record to determine that he is unfit to continue representing them in Congress.
