SARASOTA – Sarasota Democrats will showcase a unified political party focused on the future at their rally on Aug. 3, in stark contrast to the local GOP party on display at last weekend’s Pie Rally.
In one particularly embarrassing but revealing moment at the Pie Rally, GOP congressional candidate Eddie Spier had to be escorted out of the venue for shouting during an opponent’s speech. Local GOP activist Lourdes Ramirez also was escorted out.
“Speakers included Sen. Rick Scott and Rep. Greg Steube, both up for re-election, spewing nonsense about what will happen under a Kamala Harris administration and about her record as vice president,” noted Sarasota County Democratic Party Chair Daniel Kuether.
“Here are two men who have done nothing for Florida or the 17th Congressional District in Congress and still offer only hate-filled rhetoric and lies,” added Kuether. In contrast, our upcoming Rally to Protect Democracy promises an informative, entertaining agenda.”
The Rally to Protect Democracy will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Payne Park, 2010 Adams Ln, Sarasota.
Rally attendees will have the opportunity to meet candidates running for local office, including the School Board, Hospital Board, State House, and U.S. House, in a relaxed environment that will include refreshments, live music, poetry reading, and other performances.
Information stations will provide guidance on key issues important to local voters, while candidate speeches will be the rally’s main event. Attendees will hear about the party’s positive message for the future of Sarasota County, Florida, and the United States.
“The Democratic Party believes in the strength of community and the importance of truth. This event will celebrate that spirit,” Kuether said.
The Sarasota County Democratic Party (SCDP) is the local committee of the Florida Democratic Party. The mission of the SCDP is to encourage the fullest participation by all voters who believe in true freedom and fairness in our society. We stand up for justice, equality, and opportunity for our citizens and support qualified candidates who will promote these goals.
