National Leaders Take the Stage at Sarasota Dems Kennedy-King Dinner
SARASOTA, Fla – Feb. 22, 2025 – Two leaders on the national political scene will share the stage at this year’s annual Kennedy-King Dinner, the premier event hosted by the Sarasota County Democratic Party.
The annual event typically attracts 400-500 attendees eager to hear from our national political leadership and especially new, younger leaders at this fraught time for our democracy: March 23 at The Ora, 578 McIntosh Road, Sarasota; doors open at 5:30PM. Ticket prices start at $185 for an individual ticket. In addition to the guest speakers, attendees will enjoy live entertainment and fine dining provided by Michael's on East for an evening of community celebration, purpose, and unity.
This year's featured speaker will be The Honorable Sheldon Whitehouse, United States Senate. Senator Whitehouse, an American lawyer and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Rhode Island since 2007, is currently the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts.
An outspoken critic of the Trump Administration and Elon Musk, Senator Whitehouse champions policies to uphold American leadership in the world, protect our planet in a changing climate, and hold the powerful accountable. He has earned a reputation as a fierce advocate for progressive values and is unfailing in his public criticism of the Administration’s leadership and actions, most recently asking in reply to Trump’s quip of “Long live the King” whether that makes Trump “a royal pain in the a—“.
Joining Senator Whitehouse will be gun control activist and political leader David Hogg. Having survived the 2014 Parkland, FL school shooting, the largest school shooting in American history, David has become one of the most compelling voices of his generation. As a co-founder of the global youth movement “March For Our Lives,” David has challenged Americans to stand up, speak out, and work to elect morally just leaders. In 2023 together with the 2022 campaign manager for Congressman Maxwell Frost, David co-founded “Leaders We Deserve” to recruit, train and fund young progressive candidates running for Congress and state legislatures nationwide. Enhancing this work, David recently was elected to serve as At Large Vice President of the Democratic National Committee.
